 Gary K. Taylor, Sr. is the founder and Senior Pastor of Open Word Christian Ministries (OWCM), a non-denominational church in Fairburn, GA outside of Atlanta. The goal of OWCM is to provide “Empowerment for Life” through practical, biblical-based teaching so people can not only have a greater walk with Christ, but also learn how to apply these teachings in their every day lives and be empowered spiritually, emotionally and financially.
Pastor Taylor’s desire to edify people began in his early teenage years after he received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at the age of 13. By the age of fifteen, Pastor Taylor began ministering with a local evangelist in his home state of Connecticut. After traveling and serving the people in the northeast area for a number of years, Pastor Taylor relocated to Georgia in 1985 where he met his wife, Maya (Harris) Taylor, and continued to serve God at several ministries in various capacities such as musician, youth minister, and events coordinator.
In line with his vision to “empower” people for life, in 1991, Pastor Taylor began OWCM with only 7 people in an apartment. Now, over 18 years later, Pastor Taylor leads over one thousand members with over 30 ministries such as the Eagles Economic Community Development Corporation which is a faith-based, non-profit, corporation that provides empowerment, training and community advocacy that benefit the social and economic welfare of the underserved.
Some of the EECDC’s initiatives have included:
- The South Fulton Business and Empowerment Center which provides financial empowerment, entrepreneurial development, home ownership education, and employment resources.
- The Xcelling Youth Zone Youth Enrichment program
- The Out of the Box Youth Financial Literacy program which imparts core principles of finance, leadership, and character development to at-risk teenagers.
Along with his Pastoral duties, Pastor Taylor is a major article contributor to the “Empowerment for Life” magazine, a publication of Open Word Christian Ministries, and a member of the South Fulton Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his active community involvement, Pastor Taylor is a member of the Potter’s House International Pastoral Alliance, demonstrating his understanding of the importance of spiritual authority and covering.
 Capitalizing on his vocal talents, Pastor Taylor is also a successful vocalist that has performed at the Promise Keepers convention, the Mega Fest Family Expo, and in the King of Glory holiday musical. In his debut album “Passions,” Pastor Taylor used his musical gift to bring the joy of wholesome, romantic songs back to Christians and deliver soulful ballads designed to help husbands and wives put the passion and romance back into their relationships.
Pastors Gary and Maya Taylor are the proud parents of five children: T.J., Shawtiel, Gary, Jr., Karissa and Katherine Jovanni.
